I love that my boys love to cook.
You may be wondering how I got so lucky to have such helpful boys. Well, you can help your children to love cooking, too! The trick is to allow their natural curiosity to flourish and not be squashed. Yes, it could get messy sometimes and cooking could take much longer, but it's all worth it!
It's actually a conscious decision on my part. Okay, I wasn't always conscious of it before. But one day, I became aware that cooking with children is one of the most nurturing and creative things I can do with my children. It's also very gratifying for them and gives them real life skills to sustain them into adulthood. It allows them to experiment, to explore, and to experience life and about themselves in such a simple and joyful way. In terms of homeschooling, it can easily cover science, math, geography, history, and art. It is as enriching as being delicious!
So next time your little one wants to help you cook(and they always want to do what mama's doing), invite them into your circle and help them in their endeavors instead of pushing them away.
This is just one of the things we do with left over rice in our kitchen:-) Just put it in a frying pan on medium to low heat. That's it, no oil or anything. When it's nice and brown, just cut it up like pizza and enjoy! Just keep an eye on it so you don't burn it. You can drizzle cheese, soy sauce, sesame oil, or anything else you may want to add.
So then Ryker also wanted to make it himself, too! Here's his little pan and rice. He also wanted a bowl of water like Mason so that he can dip his rice paddle in so that rice doesn't stick to it! Mason knows so many little tricks:-)
~Happy cooking!
